Below are 2007 Fall Recreation League Rules

As we approach the start of the Fall 2007 Season, the Rules Committee met and decided on the ground rules for play this Fall. Most of the changes occur with the 10U.

Keep in mind that these rules are in effect FOR THE FALL ONLY. THESE ARE NOT PERMANENT RULE CHANGES. Remember, this is an instructional league first and foremost.

8U Ground Rules

* Same as Spring 2007, i.e., all players in field, rotation as best you can each inning between infield and outfield, one base on an overthrow, no scorekeeping whatsoever, etc.

* Defensive Field coach can ask for time to explain a play to a girl. For example, runner on 1st, ground ball to shortstop. Shortstop runs to 3rd to make a play where there is none. After the play is over, the Field coach can call time and go show the shortstop where the proper play was.

* Game time is 1:05, with NO drop dead rule. Inning of play when 1:05 time limit occurs will be completed in full.

10U Ground Rules

Same as Spring 2007, except as to the following:
1. Coach completes at bats after 3rd walk in an inning.

2. Runners stealing 2nd or 3rd may NOT advance on an overthrow by the Catcher. This rule will allow the Catchers to practice throwing down to 2nd and 3rd on steals. Coaches are encouraged to have the Catchers throw when each runner attempts a steal. Further, a runner on 3rd may NOT advance to home under any circumstances if a runner on 1st is stealing 2nd and a throw is made to 2nd.

3. Runner on 3rd may NOT advance to home on a throw back from the Catcher to the pitcher if the throw does not leave the pitching circle. For this to apply, the Pitcher must remain in the Pitcher's Circle. The purpose for this is to take the pressure off the Catcher on the throw back with a runner on third. If a throw is so overthrown that the ball leaves the Pitcher's Circle, or if the Pitcher is not in the Pitcher's Circle when the Catcher throws the ball back, the runner may advance at her own risk.

4. Notwithstanding Rules 2 and 3, a runner on 3rd may advance to home on the Catcher's pick off throw to 3rd.

5. Defensive team may, at their option, have a Coach in the field and such Coach can ask for time after a play to explain the previous play to a girl in the field. The time out can also occur if a Coach is not in the field.

6. Team at bat will bat until the earlier to occur of 1 time through the lineup or 3 outs - there is NO 5 RUN RULE.

7. With respect to "1 time through the lineup," the "lineup" shall be the most number of batters on either team. For example, Team A has 11 players and Team B has 13 players. Team A may bat a maximum of 13 players in any given inning.

8. Game time is 1:05, with NO drop dead rule. Inning of play when 1:05 time limit occurs will be completed in full.

NOTE: the purpose of Rule 2 and 3 are to help the development of Catchers within the 10U division. The purpose of Rule 1 is to help the pitchers with their confidence. We're not trying to overcomplicate things - rather, these changes are designed to improve the Catchers in the league. Before you complain, note that we did suspend the 5 Run Rule and the Drop Dead Rule for the Fall.

12U Ground Rules

Same as Spring 2007, except as to the following:

1. Defensive team may, at their option, have a Coach in the field and such coach can ask for time after a play to explain the previous play to a girl in the field.

2. Game time is 1:15, with NO drop dead rule. Inning of play when 1:15 time limit occurs will be completed in full.
